Beaune 1er Cru 2019 Clos de l'Écu - Monopole - Faiveley
(91 - 93)/100 Parker
Tasted by William Kelley on January 14, 2021: "Aromas of plums, rich forest soils, warm spices, and smoked meats introduce the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a bright, elegant wine that is satiny and melting, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. This is the finest interpretation of Clos de l'Écu that I can remember tasting."
The Vintage: Harvest began on September 9, finishing on the 20th. Yields are averaging around 35 hectoliters per hectare in white and slightly less in red. Comparing the 2019 vintage to "a more concentrated version of 2010," note its vibrant fruit tones and refined tannins, it is even more elegant than 2018. The quality of red wines at Faiveley is consistent.
