Maranges Les Plantes Rouge 2024 - Chavy-Chouet
Hailing from the southernmost appellation of the Côte de Beaune, the Maranges "Les Plantes" from Domaine Chavy-Chouet showcases the generosity and sun-kissed character that Pinot Noir can develop in this transitional zone bordering the Côte Chalonnaise. Expertly managed by Romaric Chavy, the estate cultivates a fine plot at the foot of the slope, benefiting from rich clay-limestone soils that lend the wine a character that is both fleshy and deeply expressive of its terroir. The winemaking process is designed to respect the fruit and its origins as much as possible, favoring a low-intervention approach.
The wine undergoes measured aging in French oak barrels—with only a small proportion of new wood (typically around 10%)—allowing the tannins to be softened without ever masking the grape variety's natural freshness. This precise approach to aging results in a wine with a supple texture and a particularly delicate mouthfeel. On the palate, this cuvée stands out for its rich, inviting aromatic profile, featuring notes of black cherry and ripe red berries, alongside subtle smoky and spicy nuances that evolve over time. It delights the palate with its juiciness, its balance between roundness and structure, and tannins that are already beautifully integrated. A quintessential food-pairing wine—ideal for accompanying slow-cooked meat dishes or game birds—it offers a remarkable balance of pleasure and authenticity within the estate's Burgundy portfolio.
