L'Ermite Rouge 2024 - Sant Armettu
Corsican Wine from the Estate - Gilles Seroin
L’Ermite Rouge from Domaine Sant’Armettu is an iconic cuvée sourced from a carefully selected vineyard plot on the granite slopes of Tizzano. Made entirely from Sciaccarellu vines planted in 1973, it represents one of the purest and most refined expressions of this signature Corsican grape. Winemaking is carried out with great precision: fully destemmed and hand-sorted grapes, spontaneous fermentation in large oak vats with indigenous yeasts, no additives and no filtration. Ageing takes place over 9 months in foudre followed by 9 months in tank, preserving balance between finesse, freshness, and complexity.
The wine displays a deep and intense red color, immediately striking in the glass. The nose is expressive and layered, offering ripe red fruit aromas such as strawberry and raspberry, combined with delicate spicy notes. With aeration, the spicy dimension becomes more pronounced, revealing the full aromatic depth of the wine.
On the palate, L’Ermite is defined by its silky structure and vibrant aromatic expression. The fruit is pure, ripe, and concentrated, supported by a fresh mineral backbone typical of granite soils. The overall profile achieves a perfect harmony between generosity, freshness, and depth, leading to a long, elegant, and subtly spiced finish.
How should it be served? Best enjoyed between 15 and 17°C with light aeration. It pairs beautifully with refined Mediterranean cuisine, grilled meats, roasted poultry, herbal dishes inspired by the maquis, and aged cheeses.
What can you feel during the tasting? The tasting delivers an immediate sense of elegance and finesse. The wine unfolds with a silky, almost weightless texture, where ripe red fruits lead the expression before gradually giving way to a refined spicy complexity. The finish is precise, long, and vibrant, showcasing the full quintessence of Sciaccarellu.
Can it be aged?
Yes, L’Ermite Rouge from Domaine Sant’Armettu has excellent aging potential, generally between 8 and 12 years depending on the vintage and storage conditions.
With time, Sciaccarellu gains complexity, developing spicier, slightly smoky notes and aromas of jammy red fruit.
However, it retains its freshness and finesse, the hallmark of the great granite terroirs of Tizzano.
