Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus 2023 - Vincent Girardin
Vine Age
55 years
Geology
The vines are located in the village of Meursault, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. The "Les Charmes-Dessus" plot borders Puligny-Montrachet and lies just below the "Genevrières" and "Perrières" vineyards. The soil is clay-limestone, very stony, well-drained, and rich in iron, with a south-east exposure. Pruning is done using the Guyot (Poussard) method, along with green works including shoot thinning, training, and topping.
Vinification
Hand-harvested grapes are carefully sorted on the vine and again at the winery. Pressing is performed using a pneumatic press to ensure slow, gentle extraction.
Aging
After light settling, the must is placed into 228-liter French oak barrels (15% new oak). Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place naturally with indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is aged on fine lees for 18 months without bâtonnage (lees stirring). One month before bottling, wines from the different barrels are blended in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then racked, fined, and lightly filtered before bottling, which is done according to the lunar calendar.
Tasting Notes
The palate is opulent, balancing tension and finesse, finishing fresh and mineral-driven, well-structured and long.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with fish, shellfish, or white meats served with creamy sauces. Serve at 12°C (54°F)
