Order wine Vosne Romanée 2023 - René Bouvier
95/100 James Suckling
This is brimming with the fresh black-cherry and blackberry aromas associated with the appellation, backed up by fine tannins that are also part of the Vosne-Romanee signature. So silky on the medium-bodied palate. The black-raspberry note in the finish seals the deal. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
This Vosne-Romanée cuvée comes from a 0.5-hectare plot located on the southern slope of the appellation. The vines, approximately 55 years old, are rooted in a soil that blends clay and stony colluvium. This terroir gives rise to a wine that is both elegant and profound, true to the refined style of Vosne-Romanée.
On tasting, the wine reveals a delicate smoothness supported by fine, silky tannins. Sensual and complex, it offers aromas of candied fruit, spices, and flowers, which linger in a long and harmonious finish. While it has excellent aging potential, it can also be enjoyed within its first five years after decanting for an hour.
The estate cultivates its vines with respect for the environment: soil management, massal selection, and entirely manual harvesting. After sorting on a sorting table, the grapes are gravity-fed into the vats, with approximately 50% whole clusters depending on the vintage. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and the winemaking process prioritizes infusion to preserve the fruit's finesse. Aging lasts approximately 18 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, with limited use of sulfur and bottling according to the lunar calendar. The plots, located on the upper and lower slopes and facing east to southeast, rest on limestone subsoils and varied soils that reflect the full diversity of the appellation.
