Product description

St Aubin 1er Cru Derrière chez Edouard 2018 Vieilles Vignes - Magnum - Hubert Lamy

A family of winegrowers in Saint Aubin since 1640, Hubert created his estate in 1973 with 9 hectares. A new winery has been built in 1980 and expanded in 2002. Olivier, his son joined it in 1998. The Domaine now covers 18.5 ha, of which 10.8 ha are ha in first growths on the communes of Saint Aubin, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet and Santenay.

Winemaker : Olivier LAMY Grape variety : Pinot Noir 30 % of slope. Altitude of 320 meters.

Surface: 1 Hectares Ages: 50 and 60 year old vines Density: 11 000 vines/ha

Origin : The vines are planted on a hillside behind the Edouard family's house. The EDOUARD family lived here at 19th century in front of these vines.

Geology: Clayey-limestone soil with limestone dominating. Light soil. Lots of pebbles. East-South-East exposure

Viticulture: Royat cordon pruning (to have smaller grapes). Green pruning in May and August. No fertilizer for 10 years but organic compost based amendments are made. Enrolment of the middle of the row, more work of the soil under the feet. Low yield. High trellising (1.4 meter) for a larger leaf area. The whole area is treated with low doses of natural products, sulphur or copper or by reasoned control (treatment with products that respect the existing fauna and that are applied only when necessary). The soil is ploughed about 4 times a year.

Vinification :Manual harvest in bins or crates. Grapes are sorted and then destemmed at 30% and 70% of the whole harvest. Fermentation and maceration for about 20 days. Pigeage and pumping over are done twice a day. Little captalization. Wines put in barrels (Vosges and Allier, 20 % new and 1, 2 years old barrels).

Ageing of the wine : The cellar is cold, hence the very slow evolution of the wines. FML in barrels. Racked in October ( the wines are pushed with compressed air and therefore never pumped). The wines are not fined. Bottling ( by gravity ) after 23 months of breeding.

Quantity produced: 400 Cases of 12 bottles

Tasting note: Black bigarreau robe of beautiful intensity and great depth. Fine nose revealing grape aromas. ripe, blackcurrant jelly and wild blackberry, enhanced by a noble wood. Pure, smooth and melted mouth, developing on Fat and dense tannins, mixed with a concentrated matter. Long and balanced finish.

Possibility of evolution : To drink between 2023 and 2032.
