Muscat Herrenweg de Turckheim 2008 - Zind-Humbrecht
Domaine Zind-Humbecht
Sweetness index on the palate: 2 , not technically dry, but the sugars were not evident on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing.
A few years ago we started to plant the Muscat d'Alsace grape variety in the Herrenweg vineyard using massal selections from our old vines. Little by little, Muscat Ottonel is becoming less and less important as we think it is less and less adapted to the current climatic conditions. The Herrenweg benefits from a warm and early climate in Turckheim. Muscat d'Alsace is well suited to silty-gravelly, highly draining soils, even in dry conditions, and is always able to retain sufficient acidity for the balance of the wines. This is obvious in 2008! A dull and cold weather during the flowering period caused a bit of coulure, reducing the volumes and increasing the maturity potential. Fermentation was very slow and despite high acidity, little residual sugar remained at the end.
Hint: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or tasting dry. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not evident on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing.3: medium sweetness, more important in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4: Sweet wine. 5: Sweet wine, very close to a Late Harvest
Caution: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit into the wooden boxes sold separately.
