Le Carillon de l'Angélus 2019
Saint-Emilion - Second wine of Château Angélus
95/100 James Suckling
Aromas of redcurrant, sweet tobacco, bark and earth lead into a full-bodied palate with a creamy texture, mixing crushed stone and pure fruit on the finish. It’s tight, precise and beautifully refined, with impressive finesse and mouthfeel. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Second wine of Angélus.
Drink window: 2026 to 2030+.
Carillon d'Angélus 2016 is composed of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, aged 16 months in 50% French oak barrels. Medium to deep purple to garnet in color, it emerges confidently from the glass with aromas of pure, polished black cherries, fresh blackberries, and black raspberries with hints of non-smoked cigars, hoisin, black truffles, and wet rocks, as well as a band of pencil shavings. From full-bodied to full-bodied, elegance and sophistication are not lacking. The lively red and black fruit flavors are perfectly structured, with supple, fine tannins and harmonious freshness ending on a lingering earthy note.
