Bouzeron 2019 - Domaine de Villaine

91+/100 Parker

Cellaring potential: 2021 - 2041

By William Kelley in 2021: "The 2019 Bouzeron is particularly good, blending aromas of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and light honey with notes of beeswax and freshly baked bread. Unusually concentrated, it is a seamless, structured wine with bright acids and a long, intense finish. As attractive as it is today, I look forward to seeing it with a decade or so on the clock."

DESCRIPTION

Our Bouzeron comes from Aligoté vines located on the best slopes of the Appellation. Since our installation in Bouzeron in 1973, we have selected, in the very old vines of Bouzeron, where they were traditionally grown, so-called "golden" varieties which, as opposed to the so-called "green" types, give smaller yields and finer aromatic wines.

Our Bouzeron is a lively and fruity wine, as the grape variety wants it to be, but it also has a finesse and "roundness" which are due to the original character of the terroir.

Its qualities of freshness and "fruitiness" should be appreciated by drinking it young in its first two to three years.

Then, with time, our Bouzeron gains "fatness", fullness and can be kept for about ten years. It should be served at around 12 degrees, as an aperitif or with seafood, fish and many cheeses: goat, cantal, beaufort, parmesan, roquefort.

ELABORATION

Picked and sorted by hand, the grapes are put "whole" on the press. Pneumatic pressing is slow and gentle in order to obtain clear juices without astringency. The musts ferment in oak barrels, vats and tuns, where the temperature is controlled in order to preserve the freshness and specific aromas of each wine.

TASTING

Vinified and matured for 12 months in wooden tuns, our Bouzeron 2018 has a pale yellow colour with golden glints. The nose evokes acacia, white flowers and a handful of hazelnuts that we nibble in the mouth. The mineral aromas linked to marl, mixed with very fresh notes of citrus and white flesh fruits are perfectly balanced with an acidity and bitterness making the finish salty and the wine easily digestible. This wine is a perfect expression of the Bouzeron terroirs through its grape variety, the golden aligoté, and brings out sensations of vivacity and nourishing freshness. A very nice and happy wine. Drink it now to enjoy its "pointed roundness" on the fruit or wait five to ten years to smell the marl, the "wet stone" of the Bouzeron terroirs.
