Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru Les Champs Gains 2023 - Paul Pillot
Domaine Paul Pillot
(91–93)/100 Parker – William Kelley
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Champs Gain once again illustrates Thierry Pillot's ability to capture the freshness and tension of this climate. The nose opens with delicate notes of peach, minty pear, and white flowers, while the palate, sleek and precise, reveals a taut, chalky texture. A balanced and energetic wine, both pure and refined, faithful to the estate's elegant style.
The 2023 vintage from Domaine Paul Pillot:
This 2023 vintage marks another success for Thierry Pillot, offering whites that are both indulgent and vibrant, promising a wide tasting window. As William Kelley has often emphasized, Thierry Pillot is one of the winemakers who have earned Chassagne-Montrachet its current reputation as the most dynamic village in the Côte de Beaune for fine white wines. Entering his forties, he continues to think about the next step: his viticulture, already innovative with tall and sometimes braided foliage, will soon be accompanied by a new winery located below the village, offering more space for storage and allowing longer aging in his historic cellars in the heart of Chassagne.
- Cellaring : Drinkable from 2027 onwards and can be kept for 15 years (or more).
- Allergens : Contains sulfites
- Ideal serving temperature : 12 °C
Presentation : The 12-hectare Domaine Paul Pillot has been directed since 2004 by the young and dynamic Thierry Pillot. The vines in the domaine's enviable palette of holdings are farmed organically, though not yet certified as such, and the wines they produce are matured for some 18 months on the lees, the final six being spent in stainless steel. Percentages of new wood are modest, with plenty of larger-format 350-liter barrels, and the lees are never stirred. Characterful, elegantly textural and mouthwateringly incisive, these are superb white Burgundies, and to my mind, Pillot is one of a handful of exciting producers who win Chassagne-Montrachet the title of Burgundy's most interesting white wine-producing village today.
