Chateauneuf du Pape 2018 "La Part des Anges" - Raymond Usseglio
Vintage 2018 : (95 - 98)/100 Parker
Date of the drink: 2023 - 2035
Reviewed by Joe Czerwinski on September 30, 2019 :
"Not bottled every year, the Châteauneuf du Pape la Part des Anges 2018 is a blend of 70% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah, mainly aged in wood. While its notes of black plum and cola are no different from those of the Grenache-dominated Cuvée Imperiale, this full-bodied wine is more concentrated and velvety while remaining fresh on the long finish. It should prove to be a beauty".
The Cuvée : Late and very capricious grape variety, Mourvèdre is certainly one of the most demanding grape varieties in the South of France, especially when you are at the northern limit of its cultivation. This cuvée benefits from a maturation period that is marked enough to accompany the tannic power of the grape variety. When a wine is put into barrels for maturation, part of its volume evaporates and it is called "LA PART DES ANGES" (THE PART OF THE ANGELS). La PART DES ANGES is a rather special cuvee for a Châteauneuf du Pape since it is the Mourvèdre that dominates the blend, 70% of which is made up of Grenache (20%) and a little Syrah (10%), and should be decanted if you wish to taste this cuvee before its first 2-3 years of ageing.
