La Turque 2016 - Guigal
Cote-rotie - Guigal
Rating : (95 - 97)/100
Drink Date : 2022 - 2040
Reviewed by Joe Czerwinski the 19th Dec 2019 : "Not as impressive as it was the last time I tasted it (perhaps I caught it on an off day), the 2016 Cote Rotie La Turque is lighter in weight and less rich than the vintages either side of it. Attractive notes of cracked pepper and salted licorice accent crisp, dark-berried fruit in this medium to full-bodied effort that's still mighty impressive. It finishes elegantly, showing ample concentration and length."
La Turque is one of the emblematic cuvées from Guigal, famous for its exceptional Rhône Valley wines. Produced in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, this cuvée is made from a majority of Syrah (around 93%) with a touch of Viognier (7%), a particularity of the region. The vineyard, located on steep south-east-facing slopes, benefits from an exceptional terroir combining schist and iron. Aged in new oak barrels for 42 months, the wine stands out for its intensity, complex aromas of black fruit, spices, violets and cocoa, as well as its sumptuous texture and impressive length on the palate. Renowned the world over, La Turque embodies the expertise and excellence of the House of Guigal.
