Rated 95+ by Antonio Galloni, Dominique Lafon's Volnay Santenots 2009 impresses with its remarkable elegance and absolute finesse. The wine displays a refined bouquet of crushed flowers, licorice, red berries and a subtly integrated mineral framework.
On the palate, it combines richness and delicacy, with a silky texture that literally seems to float on the palate. This Santenots seduces with its balance and purity, delivering a brilliant and masterful interpretation of terroir. At its peak between 2019 and 2039, it promises to be one of the great Volnays of the decade.
A refined Pinot Noir with great ageing potential
On tasting, Volnay Santenots du Milieu delivers a delicate, bewitching palette of aromas: ripe red fruits, violets, notes of undergrowth, with a mineral touch that is a sign of the terroir. On the palate, the balance between power, finesse and length is exceptional. The fine but present tannic structure allows it to age admirably. This Premier Cru can be cellared for 15 to 20 years, gaining in complexity over time. It goes perfectly with truffled poultry, mushroom risotto or tournedos Rossini. A jewel from Comtes Lafon, to be savored slowly.
