Rouères 2022 Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru Liquoreux - Demi bouteille - Domaine Belargus
From the wine estate
The Rouères cuvée from Domaine Belargus—a Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru—is one of the estate’s crown jewels, hailing from one of the three historic terroirs that established the renown of this legendary appellation. Situated on a south-facing ridge, the Rouères parcel sits on soils composed of sandstone conglomerate and pebbly conglomerate—poor, highly free-draining ground that absorbs heat during the day and radiates it back at night. Farmed biodynamically under the direction of Ivan Massonnat, this 100% Chenin Blanc is crafted from a rigorous selection of grapes concentrated either by noble rot (*Botrytis cinerea*) or by *passerillage* (natural dehydration on the vine). A very slow fermentation, driven by indigenous yeasts, followed by an extended period of aging in oak, yields a nectar of unique, sun-drenched richness.
In the glass, the Rouères cuvée reveals a deep, golden-hued color and an expansive, complex aromatic bouquet—a blend of dried apricot, candied mango, floral honey, saffron, and a hint of toasted nuts. On the palate, the wine is distinguished by its dense, fleshy, and enveloping texture, imbued with the natural power of its conglomerate terroir. This opulent richness is beautifully balanced by a ripe, precise acidity that stretches the tasting experience toward a mouth-watering finish, accented by a noble, citrus-like bitterness. Bottled in a 37.5 cl half-bottle—an ideal format for savoring such a magnificent gastronomic wine on special occasions (paired with pan-seared foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, or pear-and-spice-based desserts)—it also possesses the potential to age for several decades.
