- Tasted by Joe Czerwinski on May 5, 2022: "A blend of 90% Grenache from 100-year-old vines, aged in concrete, and 10% Syrah, aged in used barrels, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Gallimard is a dark-fruited beauty with notes of blackberries, black cherries, black licorice, and black olives. Rich and velvety, with a lingering, spicy finish, this is a terrific wine."
Domaine Giraud Cuvée Gallimardes - The wine is named after the commune where the vines are planted. Produced from 90% old Grenache vines and 10% Syrah, the Grenache comes from vines that are on average nearly 100 years old. The terroir is made up of pure pebbles in the place called Les Galimardes.
Fully de-stemmed, the Grenache is aged in a combination of steel and cement or steel tanks, and the Syrah is aged in 10% new French oak barrels for 12 months. Production averages about 750 cases per year.
