The Montirius Le Clos – AOP Vacqueyras Rouge comes from a unique location, protected by centuries-old oak trees that completely surround the plot. This fully enclosed vineyard—hence the name of the cuvée—rests on exceptional clay soil, contributing to the wine's depth and complexity.
On tasting, it reveals a deep red color and an elegant nose marked by notes of peony, a signature of the terroir, accompanied by raspberry, licorice, and subtle hints of vanilla. On the palate, the tannins are fine, silky, and delicate, offering a harmonious and refined texture. The finish faithfully echoes the aromas of the nose, supported by a beautiful freshness, elegance, and great finesse.
Composed of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, this wine comes from vines approximately 30 years old, cultivated on 8.5 hectares of complex soils. These soils combine garrigue on the surface with blue clay marl subsoil, enriched with Helvetian sands and sandstones containing montmorillonite, a rare clay that gives the terroir its unique character. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the traditional vinification takes place in cement vats, with total destemming, gentle crushing, and the use of indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for two winters in vats without oak before bottling according to the lunar calendar, without the addition of sulfites. Produced in a limited quantity of only 17,000 bottles per year, this cuvée, with its controlled yield, offers remarkable aging potential, ranging from 4 to 25 years.
