Order wine : Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu 2023 - Monopole - Faiveley
From the estate
Fragrant and refined, revealing expressive aromas of red berries and summer blossoms. Elegant in style yet supported by impressive depth through the mid-palate, with fine tannins that unfold seamlessly into a long, polished finish.
Domaine Faiveley’s Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole is one of the jewels of the Côte de Beaune. Exclusively owned by the Faiveley estate since 2003, this "Monopole" covers a 2.37-hectare plot ideally situated mid-slope on a well-drained, stony, clay-limestone terroir. Its name dates back to the Middle Ages, when the owner of the vineyard paid a substantial financial contribution to the collegiate church of Beaune to help fund the town's ramparts.
Made entirely from the Pinot Noir grape variety, this cuvée expresses the finesse and structure characteristic of Beaune Premier Crus with great elegance. On the palate, the wine displays an intense ruby-red hue and reveals complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant), enhanced by subtle notes of oak and sweet spices, along with a hint of forest floor after a few years of cellaring. The attack is clean and velvety, supported by high-quality tannins, lovely freshness, and a remarkable mineral backbone.
Carefully aged in oak barrels for 12 to 14 months, this Beaune Premier Cru offers significant aging potential, ranging from 8 to 12 years depending on the vintage. It pairs beautifully with flavorful dishes such as pan-seared beef, light game birds, duck breast, or soft-ripened cheeses like Cîteaux or Époisses.
