Bottles of Château de Fargues 1999 in half bottle
Sauternes
92/100 Parker
"The 1999 Fargues is described by the estate as a classic vintage, true to the adage 'August makes the must.' Two-thirds of the harvest was picked in September, after eight days of rain that encouraged the development of noble rot. The residual sugar level is slightly lower, at 122 grams per liter. Its bouquet, more discreet and structured than that of more recent vintages, reveals notes of ginger, dried honey, mandarin, and a touch of alcohol. The palate, beautifully ample, opens with a smooth and assertive texture, supported by lively acidity. Aromas of mandarin, lemon zest, honey, and Indian spices unfold in the mid-palate and finish, which maintain a lovely harmony and linearity. A very fine Sauternes for this vintage." Neal Martin
