Order : Morgon Les Impénitents 2024 - Louis Claude Desvignes
From the estate
Sourced from the legendary Javernières parcel at the foot of the Py hill, the "Les Impénitents" cuvée from Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes represents the absolute pinnacle of the Morgon appellation. Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît Desvignes select fruit from very old, century-old Gamay vines (planted between 1912 and 1914) rooted in deep clay and ferruginous schist soils rich in "roches pourries" (decomposed rock). Vinified traditionally using whole clusters with extended maceration, followed by meticulous aging in both wood and tank, this exclusive micro-cuvée breaks away from typical Beaujolais fruit profiles to deliver a wine of extraordinary density, verticality, and depth.
On the palate, Les Impénitents reveals a dark hue and a remarkably intense nose, blending black cherry, wild blackberry, peony, and sweet spices with a deeply mineral, smoky undertone. The wine asserts itself with an athletic structure: the tannins are aristocratic—tight yet polished—and driven by a saline tension that stretches the wine out with masterful length. Built for exceptional longevity, it develops Pinot Noir-like nuances and brilliant complexity after ten to twenty years of cellaring, easily rivaling the Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits.
