Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru 2022 - Louis jadot
Great Bourgogne estate Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru - Louis jadot
(92-94)/100 Parker
William Kelley (Wine Advocate)
After being replanted with the estate's finest massale selections, the 2022 Pommard Premier Cru Rugiens (Domaine Louis Jadot) marks a remarkable return to the range. For a vine in its third leaf, the result is impressive: the wine reveals an expressive bouquet of plums, red fruits, spices, and licorice. On the palate, it is velvety and harmonious, with beautiful density, juicy acidity, and a saline finish. A very promising vintage.
GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION
The vineyards of Pommard lie between Beaune to the north and Volnay to the south, facing east and south-east. The village specialises exclusively in the production of red wines.
CHARACTERISTICS
"Les Rugiens" is made up of two main plots: "Les Rugiens Hauts" and "Les Rugiens Bas". The term "rugiens" is derived from the word "rouge", referring to the colour of the soil in this parcel, attributable to a high concentration of iron.
VINIFICATION AND AGEING
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and destemmed. The grapes are macerated in open wooden or stainless steel vats for a period of 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are punched twice a day during fermentation. The wine is aged for around 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, around a third of which are new.
