Beaune 1er cru Clos des Marconnets 2016 - Chanson
Chanson Père et fils
93/100 Wine Spectator
Tasting in 2019: "A subtle herbal aroma accentuates the central theme of black cherry and blackberry, picking up warm spice notes as this plays on the palate. Floral and mineral elements appear as the long finish builds. The tannins leave a dusty impression. Drink it from 2022 to 2038." BS
Grape variety : Pinot Noir from clonal selection, planted in 1979, 1983 and 1988.
Soil : Clay-limestone deeper on the lower slope and resting on the limestone mother rock at the top of the plot, giving an imposing structure and powerful tannins.
Location: The Marconnets are located on the top of the hillside at the northern tip of the Beaune territory. This climate takes its name from the Germanic tribe of the Marcomans who settled there in the 3rd century AD. A perennial fountain gushes out in the middle of it. Chanson owns about 4 hectares, or 40% of the climat.
The 2016 Vintage: After a cold and rainy winter followed by an episode of frost in April, mild and rainy weather took over at the beginning of May and contributed to a slightly delayed flowering, causing millerandage in many parcels (small grapes). In June, the hot and dry summer lasted for a long time and the harvest began at the end of September under a beautiful sun. Vinification : After a two-week fermentation in whole bunches, the red wines are aged in oak barrels in our 15th century cellars for 15 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new barrels.
Tasting : Garnet color. Intense aromas of ripe cherries with hints of spices. Beautiful density, fleshy with tannins giving a lot of amplitude. Very good persistence. SCORE : 16/20 JANCIS ROBINSON
Food pairing : Red meat, grilled or roasted (beef filet in the oven, tournedos Rossini), game (pavé de biche).
