Rivesaltes 1942 - Château Sisqueille
Vin Doux Naturel
95/100 Parker
When to drink this great vintage? From now until 2040
"Bottled in 2011, this 1942 Rivesaltes presents a clear amber color with brick-red highlights. The nose, round and sensual, reveals aromas of candied orange, dried honey, quince, and a hint of green reminiscent of chlorophyll, which blossoms with aeration. On the palate, it is a pure delight: the balance is remarkable, supported by perfect acidity and admirable precision. The lively, slightly peppery attack enlivens a very pure ensemble. Less fruity than other vintages, it nevertheless stands out for its intensity, concentration, and exceptional presence on the palate. A simply superb wine." Neal Martin
Old vintages of Rivesaltes from Château Sisqueille are true gems of Roussillon, made primarily from Grenache and aged for decades in barrels before bottling. Over time, these vin doux naturels develop a deep amber color and a palette of rare complexity: dried fruits, honey, cocoa, coffee, caramel, and notes of rancio. Their balance between sweetness, freshness and power makes them timeless wines, perfect for meditation or special occasions.
