Here is an exceptional bottle, as rare as it is legendary: the 2016 Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune from Gentaz-Dervieux. Although Bernard Gentaz ceased production in 1993, a few ultra-confidential bottles remain, produced by winemakers or collectors loyal to his style. The 2016 vintage, if it really exists under this label, would be an exceptional tribute, or even an extremely rare private bottling.
The Gentaz-Dervieux style is the raw elegance of Côte Brune: pure, unadulterated Syrah from old vines rooted in schist. It has the finesse of tannins and floral intensity mixed with smoky, animal, and peppery notes typical of the area. The wine offers remarkable length, tension, salinity, and a depth that commands respect.
When mature, it displays complex aromas of noble leather, black tapenade, wilted violets, and jammy black fruits. On the palate, balance reigns supreme, carried by discreet acidity and perfectly integrated concentration.
