Tasted on Feb 25, 2022: "Fragrant and seductive nose of purple plum, blueberry, dried rose, violet, lemon zest, chocolate, truffle and cigar box. It's powerful, yet so elegant and light. The tannins are seamless and finely knit. Nice length on the palate. Worth trying from 2024."

WINE DESCRIPTION AND VINEYARDS

Regardless of the vintage, this wine is over 100 years old. It represents the journey of a family to produce an Argentine Malbec that can compete with the great wines of the world. Old vines from the Catena Zapata, Nicasia and Angelica family vineyards. The origin of the vines, which we call "The Catena Cuttings", is a pre-phyloxera massal selection from the Angelica vineyard. The time of harvest varies depending on the soil composition of each plot. The harvest date can vary by several weeks from one lot to another within the same vineyard.

VINIFICATION

20% whole bunches and 80% whole berries are hand loaded into 225-500 liter new French oak barrels for 100% barrel fermentation over a period of 28 days, allowing for a smooth integration of the oak. The fermentation temperature is kept low, allowing for intense aromas to be extracted, and the cork management is done by hand to ensure smooth flavors and tannin extraction. Wild yeast. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel leaves a considerable amount of lees and sediment. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.
