Chardonnay Les Charots 2023 - Cellier Saint Benoit
Parker rating: 93/100
Drinking potential: 2026–2031
The 2023 Les Charots Chardonnay, now bottled, is riper and rounder, despite its low alcohol content of only 12.5%, and still displays a subtle oak note. Made from grapes grown in the eponymous vineyard, on soils of iron and stratified limestone, it has a more Burgundian profile. 5,266 bottles produced. Bottled in March 2025.

This cuvée comes from the Arbois-Pupillin appellation, on the Jura hillsides cultivated by Cellier Saint Benoît, a family estate now run by Benjamin Benoît, the fourth generation of winemakers. The vineyard is worked with meticulous attention to the soil and biodiversity, with hand-harvesting and limited production to preserve the terroir's identity.
The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay, the Jura's major grape variety, resulting in a more taut and saline expression than many Burgundian styles.
Les Charots Chardonnay is crafted with indigenous yeasts and a discreet use of oak, allowing the texture to round out without masking the fruit or the wine's natural tension. The result is a luminous and balanced white wine, characterized by precision rather than power.
The estate's philosophy favors minimal intervention to allow the vintage and the plot to express themselves, in an approach akin to so-called "natural" wines, but always with careful control.
A brilliant pale yellow robe
A fresh and refined nose with notes of apple, lemon and slightly milky or buttery touches
A taut, linear and balanced palate, with a subtly saline texture
A fresh and persistent finish, typical of great Jura whites.
