Ploussard Chambines 2023 - Cellier Saint Benoit - Arbois pupillin

Drink between 2025 and 2034

The 2023 Ploussard La Ronde has slightly more pronounced tannins than other Ploussards, giving it a different texture. Powerful and expressive, it comes from vines trained on high slopes in Lias red marl soils. I found it intense and beautifully expressive of the varietal. Produced in a limited run of 3,470 bottles, it was bottled in August 2025. — Luis Gutiérrez

The Ploussard "La Ronde" cuvée from Cellier Saint Benoit is a single-varietal expression of Ploussard (also called Poulsard), grown on the slopes of Pupillin in the Arbois-Pupillin appellation of the Jura region. This red wine is captivating with its pale, almost translucent color, typical of Ploussard, and develops a refined aromatic profile blending tart red fruits (redcurrant, wild strawberry), wild herbs, and light earthy or spicy notes, depending on the vintage. It is made from young vines planted in marl and clay-limestone soils, with natural winemaking; often spontaneous fermentation and aging without filtration; which highlights the purity of the fruit, fresh acidity, and a light yet structured texture. For some recent vintages, this cuvée is described as more intense and full-bodied than other Ploussard wines, with delicate tannins and a depth that gives it character and the ability to age in the bottle.

“La Ronde” also reflects the estate’s plot-by-plot, artisanal approach, often produced in very small quantities (around 1200–1300 bottles per vintage) and offering a clear expression of the Pupillin terroir. On the palate, its freshness and elegance make it an ideal companion to Jura cuisine: charcuterie, roasted or grilled poultry, mushrooms, and local cheeses; but also to more universal pairings. Served slightly chilled (around 14–16°C), this Ploussard can be enjoyed young for its vibrancy or cellared for a few years to gain complexity.
