Gordone 2023 Anjou Sec - Domaine Belargus
Appellation Anjou Contrôlée
The Gordone cuvée from Domaine Belargus is an exceptional dry white wine, hailing from a unique terroir in the commune of Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the "Anjou Noir" region. Situated on a south-facing hillside with a soil composition of schist and conglomerate rock, this historic monopole vineyard benefits from remarkable sun exposure and a geological makeup that imparts great complexity to the Chenin Blanc vines.
Cultivated according to biodynamic principles by Ivan Massonnat and his team, the plot receives meticulous care. The grapes are hand-harvested in successive passes, followed by a low-intervention winemaking process: natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts, and an extended aging period in oak barrels, all designed to preserve the pure, authentic character of the terroir.
On the palate, Gordone reveals a personality that is simultaneously radiant, expansive, and profoundly mineral. The nose opens with a generous aromatic bouquet, blending yellow peach, candied citrus, and acacia blossom with subtle notes of flint and toasted nuts. On the palate, the wine displays a rich, ripe texture, perfectly balanced by the crystalline freshness and precise, linear acidity characteristic of great Chenin Blancs grown on schist. The finish is exceptionally persistent, lingering with refined, pleasant bitterness and a mouth-watering, saline quality. This superb gastronomic white wine is an ideal pairing for fish served in rich sauces, poultry in cream-based dishes, or aged cheeses.
