Gewurztraminer Altenberg de Bergheim Grand Cru 2016 - Gustave Lorentz
91/100 James Suckling
Tasted by Js in 2020 - ‘This is a gewurz for those who usually find wines of this variety too pompous. Time has softened this creamy but rather elegant gewurz and made it friendly and soft. Enough depth and textural complexity for the Grand Cru category and a long, delicate finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink it or keep it.’
Magnificent Gewurztraminer coming from the very famous hillside of Bergheim and facing south. This Grand Cru reveals great power, virility and finesse on very ripe exotic notes (mango, lychee, passion fruit). Its mouth is fat, dense and gives off an impressive depth of floral, fruity and spicy aromas (rose water, papaya, kumquat).
Intense grape variety! It is a real aromatic palette, rich and exuberant. It is a full-bodied, well-structured wine with fullness and fatness.
