Delas Frères' Saint-Joseph François de Tournon is one of the appellation's flagship wines, crafted exclusively from Syrah grapes grown on the finest granite slopes of the northern Rhône Valley. The wine takes its name from François de Tournon, a historical figure in the region during the 16th century, and embodies an elegant and profound vision of traditional Saint-Joseph.
The blend comes primarily from old vines located on steep terroirs around Mauves, Tournon-sur-Rhône, and Vion. The granite soils impart tension, freshness, and a mineral character, while the diverse vineyard parcels allow for a balanced blend of concentration, aromatic finesse, and tannic structure. This terroir diversity results in a particularly complete and harmonious wine.
On the palate, François de Tournon develops aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, violet, black pepper, and black olive, often accompanied by smoky and slightly graphite notes as it ages. The palate is ample and precise, supported by fine tannins and a lovely freshness that lengthens the finish. The perfectly integrated oak aging adds depth and complexity without masking the expression of the fruit and terroir.
