L'Abreuvoir 2016 by Gaspard Brochet: Pure Expression of Terroir
Driven by the unique vision of Gaspard Brochet at Domaine Les Croix, the L'Abreuvoir cuvée poetically evokes the old watering holes where nature once reclaimed its space. The name symbolizes the intimate, respectful bond the winemaker shares with his land.
This 2016 vintage is a precise blend of Pinot Noir (70%) and Chardonnay (30%) harvested from the terroirs of Écueil and Sacy. These two Premier Cru villages are renowned for the complexity of their soils, where sandy loams sit alongside deep, chalky limestone.
Gaspard Brochet elevates winemaking to an art form. In the cellar, the approach is deliberately low-intervention: the wine undergoes traditional Champagne vinification but remains unfined, un-racked, and unfiltered. This uncompromising choice preserves the wine's total integrity, its original texture, and its mineral depth. The choice of an Extra Brut dosage perfectly complements this approach, allowing the terroir to express itself in its purest, unadorned form.
Appearance: A magnificent straw-yellow hue with golden highlights, bearing witness to a particularly meticulous and harmonious aging process on the lees.
Nose & Palate: The bouquet is complex and mature, opening with notes of toasted brioche, hazelnut, and dried fruit, all underpinned by a persistent mineral backbone. On the palate, the wine is fleshy and vinous, perfectly balanced by vibrant tension and a beautifully lively finish.
L'Abreuvoir 2016 is a Champagne for connoisseurs and quiet contemplation. Ideal for enthusiasts of artisanal cuvées and natural winemaking, it rewards patient tasting, allowing one to fully appreciate its nuances.
