Ageing potential: Great aging potential. The most patient will be rewarded.
"Made entirely from old Grenache Noir vines planted on a mixture of blue marl and limestone soils at an altitude of 350 meters, the Gigondas La Colline 2022 is simply stunning, revealing a dense, ripe, and complex bouquet of black cherries, spices, garrigue, and earth. Full-bodied, dense, and enveloping, it exhibits a fleshy, flawless texture built around velvety tannins and a delicate, enveloping structure. It was aged for 18 months in a combination of large barrels and concrete vats, and concludes with a long, mineral finish marked by wild black fruits. Bravo!" Yohan Castaing
Gigondas “La Colline” – The nobility of Grenache in its purest form
La Colline is a characterful cuvée born in 2013, the fruit of a high-altitude terroir revealed almost by surprise. Made from 100% old Grenache vines rooted at 350 meters on west-facing limestone marl, it offers an intense and refined expression of this emblematic Rhône grape variety.
In this bright, well-drained soil, in a cooler microclimate, the Grenache expresses itself like a prince: natural concentration, saline finesse, and freshness chiseled by the altitude. This atypical signature in the world of Gigondas produces an elegant, complex, and vibrant wine.
Customized Vinification & Careful Aging
The production is deliberately kept to a minimum: low yields (15hl/ha), hand-harvested, and rigorous sorting. After partial destemming (70%), the grapes are transferred by gravity and fermented in concrete vats for over 30 days. Each phase is designed to extract the quintessence of the fruit, without ever forcing it: cold maceration, gentle fermentation with rack and return, and prolonged infusion on fine lees.
The wine is then aged for 18 months in lightly aged 600L demi-muids (barrels used for 1 to 4 wines) to preserve the terroir's identity and refine the texture.
Serve at around 16°C, in a generous glass, to enjoy on its own or with a rich dish such as game or confit suckling pig. Great aging potential: 20 years or more.
