Pommard 1er Cru Grands Épenots 2015 in Magnum - Louis jadot
Great Bourgogne estate
(90 - 92)/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2019 - 2032
By Neal Martin in 2016: "The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Grands Epenots offers attractive raspberry, cranberry and currant scents on the nose, initially muted but quickly gaining strength in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red fruit, orange peel and a touch of brown spice, gently spreading out toward the finish but never fully letting go. It seems a bit "stiff" at the moment, but should soften with 4-5 years of bottle age."
- Grape variety : Pinot Noir
- Serving : 16-17 °C
- Cellaring : 10 years (up to 15 to 20 years in excellent vintages).
GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
The village of Pommard is located between Volnay to the south and Beaune to the north. It is located halfway up the hillside at an altitude of between 240 and 380 meters and faces east-south-east. The village produces only red wines. The word "Epenots" comes from the word "épines", meaning that these vines were once surrounded by thorny bushes.
CHARACTERISTICS
The clay-limestone soil contributes to a nice dark red color and a charming bouquet of red fruits that turns to leather and undergrowth after a few years of maturity. In terms of style, Pommard "Les Grands Epenots" is quite delicate because the soil is slightly less humid than that of Les Epenots.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION
The harvest is done by hand in small boxes in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and destemmed. Maceration of the grapes takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are pumped over twice a day during the fermentation. The wine is aged for about 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, of which about a third are new.
