Yquem 2023: Double 100/100 for a Legendary Vintage

100/100 Parker & The Wine Advocate

When to Drink ?  : 2026 – 2076

"Wiith 153 grams per liter of residual sugar, placing it among the ten most concentrated vintages in the estate’s history, Yquem 2023 stands as one of the finest wines crafted under Lorenzo Pasquini’s leadership.

The wine opens with a remarkably pure and complex bouquet of pineapple, guava, mango, candied citrus fruits, beeswax and exotic spices. Full-bodied, dense and deeply concentrated, it combines exceptional richness with impeccable balance. A generous core of fruit is supported by vibrant acidity and a crystalline texture, leading to an endlessly long, refined and ethereal finish.

Yquem’s legendary power is masterfully tempered by the freshness and tension of the vintage, delivering a level of precision and energy found only in the estate’s greatest years. Even more remarkable is the fact that the château now achieves higher levels of concentration than a decade ago, without any noticeable increase in perceived sweetness on the palate." Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate

100/100 James Suckling

"Perfect aromas flow through every layer of this wine, revealing intense notes of orange peel, honey, butterscotch, saffron, smoke and peat, complemented by hints of coffee and dried apple.

Full-bodied yet weightless, silky and impeccably balanced, it harmoniously combines fruit, sweetness and spice. The finish lingers with notes of peanut brittle, dried oranges and preserved lemons, adding further depth and complexity.

It is hard not to be captivated by the beauty of this wine today, although its ageing potential appears virtually limitless. With 154 g/L of residual sugar, it can be enjoyed now or cellared for generations."  James Suckling

The estate tells you about the 2023 vintage: the culmination of an exceptional trilogy

The 2023 vintage marks the culmination of a remarkable cycle at Château d’Yquem. After the crystalline freshness of 2021 and the solar power of 2022, 2023 embodies a rare balance between concentration, purity, and freshness. The estate presents it as a true “culmination,” a vintage born from a succession of ideal climatic conditions and the expertise of the Yquem teams.

The year was marked by a tropical spring, a particularly hot summer punctuated by welcome rains, and then an end to the season perfectly conducive to the development of botrytis. Thanks to meticulous management of the vineyard and the harvest, the château produced a wine of remarkable precision, combining power and delicacy. A blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, Yquem 2023 boasts 153 g/L of residual sugar while maintaining exceptional tension and freshness.

More than just a great vintage, Yquem 2023 is already establishing itself as one of the estate's modern benchmarks. It concludes what the château considers the first great trilogy of the 21st century (2021-2022-2023), illustrating the fundamentals that have forged the legend of Yquem for centuries: aromatic brilliance, masterful balance, and exceptional aging potential.

 Terroir

The vineyard of Château Yquem has 113 hectares of vines. The terroir is at the highest altitude of Sauternes, which gives it a unique microclimate. The microclimate is critical, as it allows the easterly winds to move through the vineyard, helping to eliminate unwanted excess moisture, especially later in the growing season when noble rot sets in.

 Service

It can be enjoyed young, although it should be decanted for at least one hour before drinking. The recommended serving temperature is between 10°C and 12°C. For the more experienced wine lovers, you can push the tasting experience over several days, in order to appreciate and follow the wine in its evolution.

It will be a wonderful accompaniment to a good fresh, slightly acidic lobster or a royal langoustine in a cream and lime sauce.
