From the wine estate
94/100 Suckling
Terroir & Vineyard
Appellation & Communes: Saint-Joseph, sourced from a selection of plots distributed across the southern and northern parts of the appellation (Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, Saint-Désirat, and Limony).
Soil: Iconic terroirs featuring varying degrees of weathered granite (decomposed granite), lending tension and mineral brightness.
Grape Variety: 100% Syrah.
Harvest: Picked at optimal phenolic maturity.
Winemaking & Maturation
Winemaking: Complete destemming followed by gravity-fed transfer into small concrete tanks. Slow fermentation using exclusively indigenous yeasts, with temperature control (max. 28°C) and minimal sulfur usage. Gentle, extended maceration lasting 3 to 4 weeks.
Maturation: Aged for 14 to 16 months; 80% in 228-liter *pièces* and 600-liter *demi-muids* (10% new oak), and 20% in unlined raw concrete tanks to preserve fruit purity.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep garnet red with vibrant purple highlights.
Nose: Expressive and precise, characterized by the lusciousness of small wild black fruits (blackberry, fresh blackcurrant), enhanced by a mineral touch of pencil lead (graphite) and delicately integrated oak.
Palate: A caressing, smooth attack that opens into a beautiful balance. Fine yet tight tannins are supported by the vibrant mineral structure of the granite. The finish is long and lingering, featuring crisp black fruit and sweet spice notes. Food & Serving Recommendations
Food & wine pairings:
Roasted quail with confit shallots and potato mille-feuille, duck breast, or rib steak grilled over vine shoots.
Serving temperature: Serve between 15 and 17°C.
