Terroir and the Expression of Syrah

Sourced from a biodynamically farmed vineyard in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, M. Chapoutier’s *Les Meysonniers* cuvée is a pure tribute to Northern Rhône Syrah. The vines—at least twenty-five years old—root themselves in alluvial terraces composed of rounded pebbles and stony scree. This free-draining, sun-drenched soil yields ripe, concentrated grapes; the wine is crafted with minimal intervention and aged judiciously in concrete tanks to preserve the fruit's pristine vibrancy and the geological character of the Northern Rhône.

Visually, the wine displays an intense purple hue with brilliant violet highlights. The initial nose offers a luscious explosion of ripe red and black fruits (blackcurrant, crushed raspberry, wild blackberry), quickly enhanced by Syrah’s signature peppery and floral notes—specifically hints of violet and *garrigue*. On the palate, the attack is broad, round, and fleshy. The tannins are silky and seamlessly integrated, giving way to a lovely sense of mineral freshness that extends into a clean, spicy, and flavorful finish.

Food Pairing and Serving Suggestions

Approachable in its youth thanks to its crispness and vitality, this cuvée also has the structure to age harmoniously for 5 to 7 years in the cellar. Served at 16–17°C, it is an ideal companion for "bistronomic" dining and sharing dishes: a fine grilled steak, a herb-crusted free-range pork chop, roasted duck breast, or a platter of artisanal charcuterie and aged cheeses such as Saint-Marcellin.
